Knoxville Nationals Winning Cars Showcased at National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum! Knoxville, IA, February 25, 2021 – With the 60th running of the Knoxville Nationals scheduled for this August, the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville, Iowa is showcasing winning cars from sprint car racing’s biggest event. Currently, twelve Knoxville Nationals winning cars are on display in the museum, open seven days a week. Cars on display include Kenny Weld’s 1965 winning super-modified entry. Kenny Gritz’s winning 1969 entry is on display, as is Karl Kinser’s first winner, driven by Dick Gaines in 1974 to the closest finish in Nationals history. Doug Wolfgang won the first of his five Nationals in Bob Trostle’s #20 in 1977, and Steve Kinser’s first winner in 1980 was also owned by Bob Trostle and is on display as well. Wolfgang’s dominant 1989 sprinter is on display, as is 1996 winner Mark Kinser’s. Two of Tony Stewart’s wins as an owner are represented in Danny Lasoski’s 2004 entry, and Donny Schatz’s tribute to Mario Andretti in 2009. The 50th Knoxville Nationals was won by Tim Shaffer. That car, as well as Jason Johnson’s popular 2016 victory are on display. The latest addition to the collection is the most recent Nationals winner. The Jason Johnson Racing #41 piloted by David Gravel arrived recently to bring the Nationals winners in the museum to an even dozen. A special section is also dedicated to videos and memorabilia surrounding the 60 years of the Knoxville Nationals. “Of course, we started collecting these cars a year ago, in anticipation of the 60th running of the Nationals, but we all know that was postponed,” says Bill Wright, the Museum Coordinator at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum. “We’re very fortunate to have some very cooperative museum supporters in these owners, who have allowed us to hang on to these cars to display a little longer! We’d like to thank the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska, Ron Fick, Danny Lasoski, Tony Stewart, Aaron Call and Janet Holbrook and Bobbi Johnson. We’re hoping to add one or two cars yet this spring, so stay tuned, and come on in and see us!” Of course, the museum still has many displays going on including the “Salute to Champion Greg Hodnett.” Currently, the theater is playing the “Best of 2020,” featuring the best main events of the past year. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Weekday hours will expand to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting April 1.
